Established in 1891 the now named ‘The Cons Club’ is a diverse and very welcoming environment with strong links to the residents, professionals and student community of the Cathays district of Cardiff. We have strong links to other clubs around Cardiff and beyond which we have regular competitions with and building up brilliant comradery on many levels.
Originally a politically affiliated club (for approximately a century), yet this is no longer the case and we are politically neutral and welcome everyone through our doors regardless of religious, political, social belief/affiliations. Community takes precedence over everything else …..
The Cathays Conservative Club is one of the ‘Diff’s best hidden gems. We are one of the few community clubs (like Sports and Social) left in Cathays (and much of south East Wales) and we deeply value what our fair district stands for with its rich tapestry of local history, strong community values and local links and a friendly place where people help each other.
With a lot of recent modernisations and the aim to be a central social hub of Cathays; ‘The Cons Club’ has a fantastic inviting new grafitti-art on the club’s exterior to highlight all the amazing activities that regularly happy here. Please link to our Facebook page to see all our regular activities as well as our special entertainers, variety shows, cabaret, comedy, singing acts we have on weekends.

The Cathays Cons is one of the very few community clubs left in Cardiff.
Situated on Wyeverne Road in Cathays, the club has survived for over 100 years providing a venue where familys and friends could meet up for a chat and a drink – or enjoy one of the many social events organised by the committee.
The club has suffered over the years as many of the local families have moved away, leaving the area to turn into a place heavily populated with students who have moved in whilst they are studying in Cardiff. The community demographic is increasing again in the 2010’s in no small part down to our students who elected to stay in Cathays after graduating and are now having their own children and bringing up their families in Cathays!
However, despite the odds the club has struggled through all of this and continues to trade. This is thanks to the loyalty that the community has shown over the years to the club and the way it has adapted to an ever changing world around it.
The venue has as much to offer the locals today as it ever has done, even with the average age of the local population dropping considerably over the years – perhaps even more so……
I cant think of many places in Cardiff where you can play FREE snooker on a Monday on a full size table (even if you have to pay, it only works out at £1.20p a hour) and FREE pool on a Wednesday every week – as long as you buy a drink of course…
There is a huge bar and lounge area, along with a function room with a capacity for 200 people – oh, did I mention that this is FREE to hire out as well?
Cant find somewhere to practice your with your band? Or need to perfect your routine with your crew ready for Britain’s got talent? – this place could be your answer……why not stage your own talent show?, the place is fully licensed until 11.30pm. They have a group of musicians and a dance group who meet to practice at the moment, noise is not a problem here.
As well as snooker and pool tables, the venue also boasts 2 skittle alleys, dart board, registered poker night on a tuesday, bingo nights and regular entertainment night. Looking to join a team? Or maybe you and your friends want to form one? – the Cons could be the place for you!!!!
Some of the local teams are on Facebook and Twitter so you can follow their progress through the season to see how they are doing (the snooker team just won the C&DSL Division 1 title !!!) and there is a handsome trophy cabinet that proves how successful the club has been over the last century or so in different sporting events.
The outside of the place has just been dubbed with some graffiti done by a local artist to reflect the activities available inside the club, and helps give a bit of a ‘younger’look to it.
You can’t miss the place with the new look artwork, but it would be a shame to miss out on what it has to offer to you – whether you are a local, or a student just spending a bit of time in the capital.
Why not pop in and see for yourself?
